Books and More Books! Fall of the Empire Era

There aren't a lot of books out there about the OT era, at least not that I know of. But I've read a few, so here's my list, again in no particular order. SPOILER ALERT!!!*

"Allegiance" by Timothy Zahn

Great book! Read it! It picks up with Luke, Leia and Han up right after the Battle of Yavin. Luke's messing around with the Force, and Obi-Wan helps him out from time to time. One cool part is in a bar, during an altercation, Luke takes out his lightsaber and ignites it over his head... and the place goes dead quiet! Too cool!

"Shadows of the Empire" by Steve Perry

Takes place between TESB and ROTJ. Great fill in material! How does Luke get a new lightsaber? Find out! I always thought that time between movies was sort of a gray area, and this sheds some light on it.

The movie novelizations are great, and I love how the ANH book says "from the Adventures of Luke Skywalker" and starts off with a quote from "The Journal of the Whills."

I particularly remember enjoying the ROTJ novel.

"Death Star" could be considered OT, even though I talked about it in by 'tween blog. It's still good, so read it!

"Truce at Bakura" by Kathy Tyers

I consider this to be OT era, since it's only a few weeks after the Battle of Endor. Luke is still injured from all that Sith lightning, but he's willing to do his mission like a good Jedi. He meets the girl of dreams but nothing comes of it, sadly. If my memory serves me well, and it usually doesn't, this was the first Star Wars book I ever read.

Next I'll start in on the EU, so be prepared for a lot of complaining!

* The Rebel Alliance wins the war.

"Shadows of The Empire" and " Truce at Bakura" You know what you just did?? You named both of my favorite books in just one blog lol. Truce was the first SW book you ever read, I think mine was a comic novelization of "The Empire Strikes Back" it wasn't mine it was a friends and I have never been able to find another one like it :( but it was a sweet book I tell you what.

Haven't read Allegiance or Shadows of the Empire! :_| But now that you recommended them, I might give them a whirl.

The Truce at Bakura was pretty good, and it was actually my sister's first full-fledged Star Wars book! B-)

I LOVE complaining!!

Allegiance was very good. Did not read, only played SotE. Have difficult time getting into the Bantam books, I don't/can't really take them seriously as they were all done before the PT, therefore their take on events pre-OT are suspect. I also have a problem with Palaptine coming back as a Clone, it just doesn't jive with the movies. The Del Rey books I like, as most of them were done after TPM came out, they have the benefit of both the PT and the OT to reference. Have yet to read Death Star, but Allegiance was epic.

I've read all of those except Truce, which I plan to get to soon. Loved Shadows and Allegiance.

I just finished Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor not too long ago (not set that far off from the OT) and am reading Coruscant Nights III right now. But perhaps those will be in your EU reviews!

I just finished "Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor" and have started "Wild Space." Might have to do a Special Edition on those! LOL

Yes, Wild Space deserves a special edition for sure! If I may, here is ami's and my blog entry about this fantastic book.

And did you like Mindor? I thought it was good. It really shows the power of the Force Luke has gathered to himself, in only a few short years. Really good read, and introduces a few interesting characters too.

The Force is at work!

But now that you recommended them, I might give them a whirl.

Go for it!

I also have a problem with Palaptine coming back as a Clone, it just doesn't jive with the movies.

It's also really LAME!

i couldnt finish the whole thing, never had the time.

I get the idea you don't read a lot of books! I, on the other hand, have way too much time on my hands! :^O

If I may, here is ami's and my blog entry about this fantastic book.

That's the reason I got it! At first I said, "oh no, another clone book, yuck" but it's not, it's an OBI-WAN book! Well at least the first 150 pages... :x
