EH on one, and WOO HOO on the other! SPOILERS!!!!!!!!
Legacy of the Force - Aaron Allston, Karen Traviss, Troy Denning
This series could easily have been a trilogy. The Rise of Jacen, The Reign of Terror, and The Fall of Jacen. But it just went on and on and on. I kept reading to see what would happen next, but whole volumes went by without anything much happening.
I didn't care for the Mandalorian story line, and in fact I didn't even read those parts and the story still made sense. Therefore it must have been unnecessary. The idea that they could teach a Jedi (Jaina Solo) anything was nauseating. It was simply Karen Traviss' infatuation with Boba Fett. All of contributions were so awful I'm not sure I should even call them "contributions."
The Ben Skywalker story line was mostly unbelievable. The kid was 14, what was he doing assassinating people and trying to be a CSI? Puleeeze... where were his parents? Luke and Mara were written as complete wimps as parents. Tell that kid to get back to the Jedi Academy or go to high school and quit following his evil cousin around the galaxy. Mara's death was a waste, BTW.
The only one of these I own is the finale, since my dear friend Master Mina got me an autographed copy! Woo Hoo! I like Denning's work anyway. I read it to make sure Jason was DEAD!
Now, on to better things.... WILD SPACE by Karen Miller.
Amidalooine and Darth Hiram reviewed this book better than I can. All I can add is that as an Obi-Wan lover, I thought this book was FANTASTIC. Poor Obi-Wan suffers throughout most of the story from Sith mind tricks and physical injuries, and although I felt for his suffering, I was so impressed by his courage and fortitude. He was so Jedi-like and, well, manly that I love him even more now than I did before!
>This book had the potential to become tedious with the journey of our heroes that lasted three days, but it never did. It does not overwhelm with unnessecary details of the trip, it is compactly told and keeps moving along! Kudos.
You just have to stomach Anakin and Padme's lovemaking in chapter one. LOL
I hear Ms. Miller is planning another Clone Wars book starring Obi-Wan and Anakin, and I say: "YES!" If it's anything like "Wild Space" it'll be a keeper.
Oh, and this book should have been a hardback! Paperback release doesn't do it justice. Maybe I'll have it laminated.
Sinking into the Force, he gathered its measureless power to him. Felt the light fill him, sparkling in his blood. Once he was supremely centered, aware of himself and his place in the universe, aware of Organa's place, the duet they sang within the Force's living glory, he extended his senses and control. Wrapped them around the struggling starship, the gliding brick, and cradled it in a cocoon of pure light-side energy.

Well, I liked it, actually. I prefer the more melodramatic Star Wars books. So the droning kind of appealed to me. :p
The Mando parts...not so much. ?:|
Mara's death was a waste, BTW.
I don't think it was. I think it was necessary. The galaxy changes. Some of that change includes death. Although I don't think that was the actual reason she was killed off. I tried to forget why Karen Traviss said she made that executive decision.

Awesome!!! As a matter of fact, for Christmas, my mom got me an autographed copy of Order 66...:8}
...and Rule of Two!!! :^O

And the amazing thing is that most books, especially Star Wars books, love to fill their pages with useles...stuff. Not so with this book. Excellently written. Almost as if I'd written it.
Almost. ;)

Two more!! She and Traviss are doing a whole Clone Wars series together, alternating with each book. Traviss will do one next, called No Prisoners, and then Miller will do another one. Then Traviss again, and then Miller once more.

It bothers me more that LFL let her.
Almost as if I'd written it.
Yeah! LOL
She and Traviss are doing a whole Clone Wars series together, alternating with each book.
Now I'm not so happy, I don't like Traviss' view of the Clone Wars. Hopefully they won't be intertwined so much that I have to read her stuff.
love to fill their pages with useless...stuff.
"Shatterpoint" comes to mind, to much detail about a trip through the jungle... too much detail on battles or space dogfights often lose me somewhere... it's nice to paint a picture, but make it a compact shot!

No, they won't be that intertwined. They'll be independent novels, but all published under the heading "The Clone Wars." So you don't have to worry. Just buy the ones written by Karen Miller. ;)

yea i did think parts of LotF dragged on a bit at times. but i did think that the mandalorian storyline was refreshing and gave us a good look at boba fett. and i also thought the whole idea of caedus was a waste of sith.

gave us a good look at boba fett.
It teased us that he was finally going to die (again) and then he didn't. LAME
I don't like him, if you can't tell. LOL

Great reviews, Gidrea ... and thanks for the linky!
I felt a bit let down with LoTF ... I had huge hopes for it, especially spread over nine books, but it just dragged in parts and many scenes didn't serve an overall purpose, other than to kill off two major SW characters.
And you already know I loved Wild Space! I won't say more than I did in ami's and my review, except I am glad Ms. Miller is preparing to write more!

Try not. Do. Or do not. There is no try.

Mara's death was a waste
I agree. While I suppose it was necessary for the effect it had on both Ben and Luke, :x she still was stronger than Jacen, even in his dark form. Jacen's whole turn to the Dark Side was ridiculous, in my opinion. While I could understand Anakin's, I never found Jacen's to be believable.
Now that you've completed Wild Space, I'll just say I didn't find certain character aspects to be particularly believable - most notably Padmé's regarding Obi-wan and her marriage to Anakin and the dragged-out discourse between Obi-wan and Bail. Other than these, I enjoyed the book immensely.
MTFBWY :)

My thoughts exactly!
dragged-out discourse between Obi-wan and Bail.
Obi-Wan was a little harsh on Bail, wasn't he? A little more distrusting than usual, he should have known he was being truthful, at least to the best of his knowledge!
Oh, and this book should have been a hardback!
And it is available in the UK in hardback, a quick trip to eBay or Amazon fixed me right up!

Fortunately, this never happened, probably because Traviss was fired from writing any more SW books after bitching that George was changing HER timeline.
And here I thought the story belonged to George.
Karen Miller did write two more Clone Wars books, and they were pretty good.
