Don't get me wrong, I wish them a WONDERFUL time! I just want to be there!
So, to ease my pain, I popped ROTS into my laptop last night and watched most of it up-close... and realized all over again what a wonderful movie it (mostly) is. For one thing, I was struck by the details in the background in many scenes. Details that a lot of filmmakers would leave out, or not even think of.
Everyone who's seen the film probably appreciates the opening battle scene. Such attention to details! Yes, I know about the kitchen sink! But there are other places where this attention to detail really grabs me.
For instance, take the scene where Obi-Wan flies out of the troopship and into his hyperdrive ring... as he leaves the ship you can see the night lights of Coruscant in the background... and the music is PERFECT as "The Light of the Force" plays in the background...
Did I mention that John Williams is a genius?
Ewan McGregor is awesome as Obi-Wan Kenobi, and his performance on the platform of Mustafar is one of the best ever... Anakin, my allegiance is to the Republic, to Democracy! And his rendition of You were the Chosen One is so full of pain and anguish... and he's so damn hot, too.
I'm sorry to say that the weak point of the movie is Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker. To me, Anakin should have been older and more mature. A hero, not a whiny baby... I know a lot of women think he's cute, but damn... he needs to be slapped across the face and told to STFU...
Mace Windu is badass and very manly as takes on the Chancellor, but what's with the easy deaths of the Jedi who accompanied him? Come one, a couple minutes of fighting would have been awesome!
I've seen a lot of criticisms over the years of Natalie Portman's portrayal of Padme, but I noticed her scenes with Obi-Wan are much better than her scenes with Christensen, and perhaps this is a reflection of his lesser talent rather than hers. For example, she's good in the scene with Obi-Wan on the balcony of her apartment, but cheesy in the apartment scenes with Anakin.
So, if you're suffering from Con Withdrawal, I recommend a DVD at least once a day! Throw in a little fan fiction and some Star Wars Galaxies and the weekend is not lost after all.
May the Force be with us all!

Three years after my wonderful trip to C-IV, I am sitting home during C-V... seething with jealousy over my friends' participation.
Hey, at least you made it to CIV. This makes the second Celebration that I've missed, and the second I had a chance of attending. So I'm not just disappointed, I'm pretty angry, as well.
Don't get me wrong, I wish them a WONDERFUL time! I just want to be there!
Oh, I'm sure they're going to have an awesome time! But they would have an even more awesome time if I was there. :p Seriously, I'm really, really happy for the people who were able to go.

That's why I don't understand the complaints over his depiction in TCW and Karen Miller's novels. I think of these latest portrayals as one long retcon for Anakin's character. And if anything needs retconing, that's it. :^O

I don't know, it might've been too much. Because we've already got so much stuff going on by that time in the movie that it ran the risk of being overwhelming.

Err, no, Giddy, I have to disagree with you. :^O In the scene where Obi-Wan comes to tell her that Anakin's turned to the dark side, she's so fake and mechanical that it's painful. To say nothing of just about all of her scenes in TPM. They make me cringe more than Jar Jar. :p

This may be a good time to reacquaint myself with Master Qui-Gon. I haven't watched TPM in almost a year. Shameful! Maybe play some Battlefront, too...Read some comics...I might as well just have Celebration Sparrow. ;)

Good suggestion to watch a SW flick, though. :)

I blame most of the cheesiness on the fact that George failed to hire me as a scriptwriter... :^O

Yes, it's wrong on so many levels! And it appears to be a bigger and possibly better con than CIV was... or maybe that's just my jealousy kicking in...

G-L, CV was a lot of fun, and you were sorely missed.
I've always liked Natalie Portman. But, then again, my first exposure to her was not TPM. I think she did a great job as Padme from beginning to end. And I don't know if it was so much Hayden's relative inexperience (as compared to Ewan's) as it was the dialog for a lot of scenes between Padme and Anakin. Even GL has admitted that it's not the easiest facet of screenwriting for him to do. As much as I love the entire saga, I have to admit that both AOTC and ROTS could have used some script doctoring, especially the more romantic scenes between the two star-crossed lovers.
Not to put any pressure on you, but CVI is still 3 years away. Any chance that it might be a possibility . . . ?:|
Here's hoping! :D

p.s. did you win the ebay auction for TPM? :)

No, really... he should have hired help, it's not like he couldn't afford it... :D
I'm not counting on C6 if it's on the east coast, it's just too expensive,,, yes, I got the auction for TPM, but like an idiot I didn't notice it wasn't widescreen... duh... lol
