It's a Good Omen!

I've read a couple of Star Trek books by Christie Golden, so I was familiar with the name.

Like Karen Miller and
Wild Space, I worried about Christie's first venture into the Star Wars Universe. How would she fare in our beloved GFFA?

Well, like
Wild Space, I worried for nothing. Ms. Golden has breathed life into an EU that, for me at least, had been growing a little stale.

Fate of the Jedi: Omen is a great read, and a wonderful follow-up to Aaron Allston's Fate of the Jedi: Outcast.

It's entertaining, and it moves along at a fair pace, giving us a few teases about things to come in future volumes.

No details or spoilers in this review, just my advice to READ THE BOOK! But be sure you've read
Outcast first.

I can hardly wait for the next volume when Troy Denning chimes in with
Abyss. If it's anything like the first two volumes, and why wouldn't it be, this looks to be a very entertaining series!

So, what are you waiting for? Read it!

You want more people to read this entry, you better put *No Spoilers!!* in the title. ;)

Really? I've always been kind of reluctant to get into Star Trek books. How much Star Trek knowledge do you have to have to enjoy them? And how good are they, typically?

I followed Christie's blog as she talked about her writing process, pleasures and difficulties, and finally Omen's upcoming release, and her enthusiasm and passion were infectious. Here's an author who loves books, and that's something to talk about. ;

She said that her favorite part of the novel was the Livestock Exhibition, and I really have to agree. That was possibly the most heart-stopping little piece of EU I've ever read! :D

Well, like Wild Space, I worried for nothing.

Don't judge a book by its cover? :p

I was sort of afraid that FOTJ would be a repeat of LOTF, with the same old same old galactic peril blah blah blah. But FOTJ has found plenty of ways to throw us into the depths of disaster without resorting to the much-overdone galactic civil war!

My only hope is that my now very high hopes for this incredible series aren't grinded into tiny pieces and blasted into oblivion. ;)

So, what are you waiting for? Read it!

What do we do after we've read it? :p

Good advice! Which I took!

You have to know the major characters and who is whose enemy, but otherwise they're pretty simple. They don't substitute for SW.

Don't judge a book by its cover?

I've heard that!

p.s. see how I restrained myself from getting into the book?

It's hard not to! But if I started, I'd go on and on!

And you do that well...Henceforth the reason I had to call Giddy while at your place and ask what the hell happened at the end of the book. :^O

So, what are you waiting for?

For BART to go on strike so I can stay home from work and read the series...LMAO. :^O

Alright, you have my attention to read this stoopid series. And if it's a disappointment, I'm dissing you and Snips...LOL

Oh god, oh god, we're all gonna die...from boredom if it drags out in nine or more books like LOTF...LOL

I haven't started this series yet, but I'm glad to hear that it's a good one so far. I'm a huge fan of the EU, I just had a few other things I wanted to get to first. I've got way too many books to read! :O

Yeah, and in record time, from what I could see last night. You read your e-mails faster than I read mine, and that's really saying something. :p

You have to know the major characters and who is whose enemy, but otherwise they're pretty simple. They don't substitute for SW.

Of course not!! Well, I'm sketchy with my Star Trek at best, so maybe I should hold off for now.

On another note, they were playing ANH on all the TV screens at Wal-Mart today...geek heaven!!! :^O

And start writing blogs again? ;)

No, no, anything but that!! :p

I've read both Outcast and Omen. They were both good books, and I'm enjoying the series, but... I wonder at the decision to make all the Fate of the Jedi novels hardcovers. Omen was great and all, but not anything really earth-shaking happened. And if I'm going to pay hardcover price, I'd like for some events that have some real effects on the future of the Star Wars galaxy.

That said, I will certainly not hold it against Ms. Golden. Her entrance into the Star Wars universe is a solid one, and had Omen been a paperback, I would absolutely be singing her praises right now.

My two cents, for what it's worth.

Hey, just because there's no galactic civil war like there has been a zillion times, that doesn't mean that nothing's happening.

All these books, so little time to read!

I loved Wild Space! An old friend told me it was really good, and she was SO RIGHT!! :D

This has been the best new series in a while. I was hesitant to start it at first...Mara's gone, Jacen killed...seriously how much more can go on! However it looks to be another long one (series)... much as I love SW some of the series go on forever!!! I hope it stays interesting. I really like how there is more information on the characters what they are doing, how they are feeling, etc. It's good to have that in besides all the battles. Wild Space and No Prisoners were both great as well!
